The Doxastic Interpretation of Team Semantics

چکیده
We advance a doxastic interpretation for many of the logical connectives considered in Dependence Logic and in its extensions, and we argue that Team Semantics is a natural framework for reasoning about beliefs and belief updates.

A Multi-Model Modal Theory of I-Semantics Part I: Modals1
This paper provides a semantic analysis of restrictions on quantification into doxastic modals uncovered by von Fintel and Iatridou (2003). The restrictions are made to follow from the architecture of a new theory of semantic interpretation, deriving from an asymmetry in the introduction of doxastic and non-doxastic modal bases. The analysis can be seen as a concrete extension of Kratzer (1991)...
متن کاملA New Interpretation of the Semantics of "Moral Obligation" from Allame Tabatabaie's Viewpoint
The most important part in analyzing moral concepts includes those used as predicate in moral sentences covering moral concepts of valuation and obligation. Moral concepts in the field of values include those like “good” and “bad” while obligatory concepts include “ought to” and “ought no” and “duty”. Many papers have been written about “moral obligation”; however, dissociating the area of sema...
متن کاملThe Topology of Belief, Belief Revision and Defeasible Knowledge
We present a new topological semantics for doxastic logic, in which the belief modality is interpreted as the closure of the interior operator. We show that this semantics validates Stalnaker’s epistemicdoxastic axioms [23], and indeed it is the most general (extensional) semantics validating them. We prove, among other things, that in this semantics the doxastic logic KD45 is sound and complet...
متن کاملKnowledge Means 'All', Belief Means 'Most'
We introduce a bimodal epistemic logic intended to capture knowledge as truth in all epistemically alternative states and belief as a generalized ‘majority ’ quantifier, interpreted as truth in many (a ‘majority ’ of the) epistemically alternative states. This doxastic interpretation is of interest in KR applications and it also has an independent philosophical and technical interest. The logic...
متن کاملThe Topological Theory of Belief
Stalnaker introduced a combined epistemic-doxastic logic that can formally express a strong concept of belief, a concept which captures the ‘epistemic possibility of knowledge’. In this paper we first provide the most general extensional semantics for this concept of ‘strong belief’, which validates the principles of Stalnaker’s epistemic-doxastic logic. We show that this general extensional se...
